THE-DREAM'S NEW ALBUM: LOVE VS. MONEY

Jen and I cannot get enough of The-Dream's album, we love it!  Album drops March 10th, so all ya'll have to go cop it.  My favorite track is "Make Love To Me", "Sweat It Out", "Right Side of My Brain" and uhhh I can keep going.  I think this second time around, his album is more pop influenced as oppose to his debut album but, that's the way music is going.  I still think he's a very talented writer and this album offers a variety of sounds.  I am not sure if all 16 tracks will make it to the U.S. album cut as am told he is putting a different version out in the U.K.!!!  Album cover looks good, very Ray Kay lol.  Love vs. Money, WE DIG IT!

KANYE WEST ON LOIUS VUITTON

Martin Louie King Jr., address him as such, formally known as Kanye West recently taped an episode of VH1 Storytellers last week, which will reveal how the eccentric artist made each of his hit albums.  West, who taped his episode at Sony Stages in Los Angeles, gave exclusive performances of a number of his hit records from each of four albums, including his latest, 808's & Heartbreak.  Additionally, West explained his thought process behind creating each record, in accord with the Storyteller's format.  In the upcoming March issue of of Details magazine, West, who is featured on the cover, gave readers a glimpse into how he created 808 & Heartbreak and reiterated his claim to be retiring from Hip-Hop to focus on fashion.  "There's nothing more to be said about music," the 31-year-old artist told Details. "I'm the fucking end-all, be-all of music. I know what I'm doing. I did 808s in three weeks. I got it. It's on cruise control. Man, we talked about music for God knows how long! Now let's talk about how my fu**ing sweater didn't come back right from Korea. That's what's interesting me."  According to the article, West, who recently launched a line of sneakers with Louis Vuitton in Paris *sigh*, is serious about his move to the fashion capital of the world to pursue a career in fashion.

"I'm moving to Paris and I have a relationship with Louis Vuitton, and it's like, Look how far I took that relationship to the biggest record label, and look where I took it in music," said West, who earned over $40 million dollars in 2008.

After falling in love with hip hop in 1985, rapping became Chunk Manson's thing! The Puerto Rican rapper from Long Island spent over 17yrs on the underground scene and now emerges to get his rightful recognition and place in hip hop history as a solo artist. He has managed to stay current through every evolving era and has become amaster at his craft. As a songwriter and performer Chunk has beenmaking moves in the music industry since he was 11 yrs old. FILM ON AALIYAH IN PROGRESS!

This should be good: Aaliyah will reemerge on the big screen via an upcoming biopic. Media sources report that Canadian R&B/pop singer Keshia Chante will play the songbird in the film, which will be helmed by director Bill Condon. Others appearing in thefeature include Aaliyah’s choreographer Fatima Robinson, Missy Elliott, Timbaland and Ginuwine. Famed music video director Hype Williams has also been tapped for the project to recreate Aaliyah's final video shoot for the hit song "Rock the Boat." To insure that his work lives up to fans’ expectations, Condon is making sure his cast do their homework to become as familiar with Aaliyah and those in her life as humanly possible. “We are going to great extremities to make this movie perfect. We have [Keisha] Chante in extensive training studying, speaking with family members, watching personal footage and in choreography training with Aaliyah’s choreographer and dear friend Fatima Robinson,” he told the New York Post. LIL KIM LASTEST EDITION TO DANCING WITH THE STARS!

Lil Kim has joined the cast ofABC's "Dancing With The Stars." Announcement of a pending merger between Live Nation and Ticketmaster Entertainment will likely come today. A source tells Billboard that the boards of both companies met yesterday and approved the deal, but neither company would confirm.  The merger would create the most powerful and influential entity the music business has ever known. MTV NETWORK'S UPCOMING FORMAT!

SNOOP DOGG LEAVES INTERSCOPE RECORDS

After many years and many hits, Snoop Dogg and long time recording company Interscope/Geffen Records have parted ways, according to Chronic Vacation. Founded by Jimmy Iovine in 1990, Snoop Dogg immediately became one of the major players at the label through his affiliation with Death Row Records. The first major release from the pairing was The Chronic from Dr. Dre, whose lead single, the Snoop Dogg assisted “Ain’t Nothin But A G Thang” helped propel the album to multiplatinum status.
Snoop Dogg’s own debut album, 1993’s Doggystyle followed in The Chronic’s footsteps and was certified quadruple platinum by the RIAA. In 1998, Snoop Dogg parted ways with Death Row/Interscope and Snoop spent the ensuing years with Master P’s No Limit Records and later hit the independent circuit, releasing mix tapes and albums with long time collaborators, Tha Dogg Pound. REGGIE BUSH FOR REDBULL

New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush, also known as the boyfriend of Kim Kardashian, has signed an endorsement deal with Red Bull, becoming the first NFL to be supported by the energy drink leader.

Appearently, someone else was the originator! Although Rihanna's camp hasn't made a statement, Jackson already admitted that he used parts of Dibango's song on his "Wanna be Startin' Something," and had reached a financial settlement. However, Rihanna also used parts of his song on her 2007 single saying she obtained Jackson's permission to use the melody on her song, but apparently, she did not contact the original artist. Rob Stringer, Chairman Columbia/Epic Label Group, named Ghost the president of Epic on Monday (February 2)  Amanda Ghost will join the company effective February 16, 2009 and be responsible for overseeing the overall management and creative direction of Epic Records. Live Nation Merges With Ticketmaster!

LiveNation and Ticketmaster Entertainment may announce a merger later on this week, according to Reuters. If the union between the two companies were to occur, it would signify the emergence of a powerful music industry presence with a joint market value of over $700 million. Dubbed “LiveNation Ticketmaster,” the conglomerate would consist of the world’s largest concert promoter, and one of the top ticketing companies. Together, the firms are linked to more than 200 artists including Madonna, Shakira, and Jay-Z.

Live Nation made headlines back in April of ’08 after landing a $150 million deal with artist Jay-Z [click to read]. Although Live Nation deals mostly with concert promotion, the company has been expanding business ventures by signing “360” record deals with artists, most of who get to keep the rights to their own music.

There are a few problems facing the possible merger, including managerial and contract matters. One issue that consumers face will be Live Nation Ticketmaster’s stronghold on concert tickets. As a huge influence on concert ticket sales, many fear that ticket prices will be driven up and that the powerhouse’s success will translate into a potential monopoly aka major $$$$!

As one music label source tells the Los Angeles Times, “[The merger may] face antitrust issues from managers, record companies, ticketing companies, and concert promoters to name a few—not to mention the Obama administration will be very tough on this stuff.”  (Billboard).
